Will a sugar tax achieve anything other than more revenue for government?

So apparently 83% of people in the Mackay Region are overweight or obese - and we live in the major sugar exporting region in Australia.

A sugar tax has been proposed but when I spoke to Federal Minister for Agriculture and Water Resorces, David Littleproud, there was no mistaking his position - listen to his 60 secnd comment by pressing the audio button.

Should governments do the "nanny state" thing and protect people from themselves - and what they may be doing to their kids?
