Cruise Whitsundays and Eco Barge Clean Seas reach 9 year partnership

A local partnership has reached its ninth year, protecting marine life and the environment.

Tourism operator, Cruise Whitsundays, and charity, Eco Barge Clean Seas say they will continue to work towards sustainability.

Eco Barge Clean Seas has a mission to clean up and protect the Whitsundays which is carried out through various programs.

Since 2009, the not-for-profit has removed 243,252kgs of rubbish from the Whitsundays waterways.

Cruise Whitsundays Renee Branton‐Brown says she is proud to support such an important local initiative.

“Libby and her amazing team at Eco Barge Clean Seas are so passionate and dedicated to keeping the Whitsundays pristine, this ethos aligns perfectly with Cruise Whitsundays’ commitment to ensuring we do all we can to protect the incredible environment in which we operate,” she says.

“Cruise Whitsundays takes its role as reef custodian very seriously, and our partnership with Eco Barge Clean Seas is a crucial part of our environmental commitment.”

Eco Barge Clean Seas Founding Chair Libby Edge believes this partnership is vital to the ongoing success of Eco Barge Clean Seas.

“Our team, and the turtles we care for, can’t thank Cruise Whitsundays enough for continuing this partnership,” she says.

“Through this support, we can continue to care for sick and injured turtles and keep our marine park clear of debris.

“As a not‐for‐profit organisation, we rely on these strong partnerships to deliver our mission, which is why we’re delighted that we’re able to continue our work with Cruise Whitsundays.

“We have worked together countless times on rescuing turtles from around the Whitsundays, with the Cruise Whitsundays crew safely bring sick or injured turtles back to Airlie Beach, where we provide care at our Whitsunday Turtle Rescue Centre.”
