ACCC power recommendations welcomed by George Christensen
Dawson MP George Christensen says he is pleased to see the ACCC's recommendations to significantly improve electricity affordability for Australian consumers and businesses.
The final Retail Electricity Pricing Inquiry report was released yesterday after more than 16 months of investigation.
A total of 56 recommendations have been made detailing ways to fix the National Electricity Market.
Base-load power is something he and Michelle Landry had been pushing for.
"This ACCC report has basically said the energy sector is broken, that what we need to have as a fundamental part of our policy, is some way the Government can underwrite or support the investment in coal-fired power stations," he said.
"We're going to look for that from the Government, we're going to continue to push for that and I guess we expect that from the Government.
"We need to support cheap power because businesses, industry and households rely on power and costs keep going up and up and up."
The ACCC estimates its recommendations, if adopted, will save the average household between 20 and 25 per cent on their electricity bill, or around $290-$415 per annum.
