Thief Crashes Stolen Car Whitsundays

A thief is accused of crashing a stolen car in the Whitsundays.

He's accused of taking a white Nissan Navara utility from the front yard of a home in Sandpiper Crescent, Jubilee Pocket between 7pm on February 22 and 7am on February 23.

At the time, the thief discovered the car unlocked with car keys still in the ignition.

The car was driven away from the house and while it was travelling on Shute Harbour Road the thief has lost control causing to the Navara to leave the road and wedge itself between trees and debris on an embankment.

It appears that the thief was injured as some blood was found on branches nearby to the crashed Navara.

The stolen car has been seized and will be examined for forensic officers.

Anyone with information linked to the incident is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible.

Car thieves will never turn away from a situation where an unlocked car is present with keys either in the ignition, or in the car itself.

Police strongly urge all car owners to ensure that their vehicles are locked when unattended (particularly during night time hours) and store your keys safely out of sight.
