DISTURBING CONTENT | Accused Dog Basher In Court
UPDATE | A Mackay man accused of brutally bashing a dog in February, will face court again on Tuesday.
Andrew Coleman is facing serious animal cruelty charges over an horrific cruelty case stemming from an attack which occurred on February 13.
He was charged after CCTV footage of the incident was released.
The 30-year-old faces a maximum penalty of three years in jail if found guilty.
EARLIER | The man caught on camera viciously assaulting a dog seen sitting on a footpath in North Mackay, has been identified.
A video was released showing a dog being badly beaten on Green Street at around 4:40PM on February 13.
The footage was captured via a static CCTV unit and disclosed when it was required by RSPCA Qld Inspectors. After a disturbance was reported in the street, Inspectors attended and required home owners in the street to provide CCTV footage to assist their investigation. Nobody was watching the attack as it occurred.
After we posted a story online on Wednesday, members of the public phoned the RSPCA to provide information.
The offender has been identified and a warrant was executed on a property and the dog was seized. The dog is now in RSPCA care and is currently undergoing a vet exam.
The RSPCA would like to thank those who reported identifying information through closed channels including our call centre (1300 ANIMAL), as requested.
The RSPCA also sent a warning to those who openly posted information on social media about the person’s possible identity that there can be serious consequences for these actions.
RSPCA Qld will always advocate for appropriate sentencing for animal cruelty, but we can all play a part in ensuring that animal cruelty offences are taken seriously and that offenders do not escape punishment because of information posted on social media.

The RSPCA'S Michael Beatty said the man was with a friend at the time of the attack.
He said the dog ran off after it was assaulted and they're not sure where it went.
The RSPCA would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack.
Mr Beatty labelled the footage "distressing" and said it was a "brutal attack".
He also said he felt like the attack was "totally premeditated, which makes it even more disturbing".
Mr Beatty said the footage makes him wonder about the mentality of the man involved, adding premeditated violence against animals can lead to violence against humans down the track.
One of the men in the footage appears to be Indigenous.
