Moderate Flood Warnings For Dawson, Connors And Isaac Rivers

Moderate Flood Warning for the Connors and Isaac Rivers and a Minor Flood Warning for the Dawson River Issued at 11:09 AM EST on Friday 28 February 2020

Moderate flooding is easing on the Isaac River at Yatton.

Isolated heavy rainfall particularly over eastern parts of the catchment has occurred over the last few days.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday, but are expected to ease over the next few days.

Dawson River to Theodore:
Minor flooding is occurring across the headwaters of the upper Dawson River with a flood peak between Taroom and Theodore.

The Dawson River at Taroom is currently at 5.19 metres and rising. The river level at Taroom is likely to remain above the minor flood level (4.50 m) during Friday.

The Dawson River at Theodore is currently at 8.82 metres and rising slowly. The Dawson River at Theodore is expected to remain above the minor flood level (8.00 m) during Friday.

The river level may peak near 8.9 metres overnight Friday into Saturday.

Dawson River downstream of Theodore:
Minor flooding is expected along the Dawson River downstream of Theodore.

The Dawson River at Moura is currently at 6.10 metres and rising. The river level at Moura is expected to remain above the minor flood level (6.00 m) during Friday.

No observations are available at the Baralaba manual gauge but the river level is expected to be around the minor flood level (4.0 metres) and rising based on the nearby automatic gauge.

The Dawson River at Baralaba is expected to remain above the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Friday and continue to rise over the next few days.

Connors and Isaac Rivers:
Moderate flood levels are continuing to ease on the Connors and Isaac Rivers.

The Isaac River at Yatton peaked at 12.20 metres around 01:00 pm Thursday 27 February and is currently at 11.31 metres and falling.

The river level at Yatton will remain above the moderate flood level (9.50 m) during Friday. The river level is likely to fall below the moderate flood level (9.50 m) Saturday.

Mackenzie River:
Small river level rises are occurring in the lower Mackenzie River around Tartrus during Friday.

The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is currently at 7.81 metres and steady.

The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is expected to remain below the minor flood level (11.00 m) going into the weekend.

Fitzroy River:
Small river rises are occurring along the Fitzroy River below the junction of the Dawson and Mackenzie Rivers.

The Fitzroy River at Rockhampton is expected to remain below the minor flood level (7.00 m) into next week.

EARLIER | There is a Moderate Flood Warning for the Dawson River and Moderate Flood Warning for the Connors and Isaac Rivers issued at 10:33 AM EST on Tuesday 25 February 2020.

Moderate flood peak at Taroom on the Dawson River today (Tuesday), moderate flood peak is expected at Yatton on Wednesday.

Further isolated falls of 60 to 80 mm have been recorded since 9am Monday across parts of the upper Dawson River catchment above Taroom.

No significant rainfall has been recorded across the Connors and Isaac catchments.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the Fitzroy basin over the next few days, with isolated heavy rainfall possible particularly with storms.

Dawson River to Theodore:
Minor to moderate flood levels are easing across the headwaters of the upper Dawson River with the flood peak approaching Taroom.

The Dawson River at Taroom is currently at 6.25 metres and steady. The Dawson River at Taroom is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (6.00 m) during Tuesday.

The river level will peak near 6.30 metres Tuesday afternoon.

The Dawson River at Theodore is currently at 6.47 metres and steady. The Dawson River at Theodore is likely to reach the minor flood level (8.00 m) at the end of the week.

More detailed predictions will be provided when upstream peaks are recorded.

Dawson River downstream of Theodore:

Minor flooding is expected along the Dawson River downstream of Theodore.

No observations are available at the Moura manual gauge but the river level is expected to start rising again towards the end of the week as upstream flood waters arrive.

No observations are available at the Baralaba manual gauge but the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level (4.0 metres) based on the nearby automatic gauge and rising.

The Dawson River at Baralaba is expected to remain above the minor flood level (4.00 m) during the next few days, with further rises expected as the peak from Taroom makes its way downstream.

Connors and Isaac Rivers:
Minor flood levels are easing upstream of Pink Lagoon on the Connors River catchment.

The Isaac River at Yatton is currently at 7.43 metres and rising. The Isaac River at Yatton is likely to exceed the minor flood level (7.50 m) early Tuesday afternoon.

The river level is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (9.50 m) Tuesday evening and a moderate flood peak is expected during Wednesday.
