Multiple charges follow break in and car theft, South Mackay

A 19-year-old East Mackay man has been arrested and charged with multiple offences following an alleged home break in and car theft.

It’s alleged that between 10:00PM on March 20 and 6:00AM on March 21, entry was gained into a home on English Street, South Mackay, by climbing onto an elevated balcony and opening an unlocked door.

A wallet and car keys are alleged to have been stolen from inside. The keys were used to steal a 2002 model Mitsubishi Magna that was parked at the address.

As a result of investigations, officers allege that they found the stolen car parked outside of an address on Dalrymple Street in East Mackay at 3:40PM on 22 March. Minor parts of the vehicle were found to be missing and it is further alleged to have been spray painted a different colour.

The 19-year-old man was charged with break and enter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, evading police while driving a motor vehicle and disqualified driving. He will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday.
