No fix yet for Telstra outages
Telstra customers across the Whitsundays are being advised they still might have trouble calling triple zero with a power issue not yet fixed.
Technicians investigating the outages have identified a damaged fibre optic cable due to a landslide caused by flood waters and heavy rain.
As a result, Telstra customers in Shute Harbour, Hayman Island, and Hamilton Island may be isolated and unable to contact triple zero until the cable is repaired.
It is impacting mobiles and landlines.
Technicians will need to excavate the site to be able to identify the extent of the damage and fix the issue.
A Tesltra spokesperson says when customers are unable to contact emergency services, it is treated as the highest priority to fix.
"When mobile services are down, customers have the option if their wifi or NBN connection is working to make mobile calls using wifi calling on their smartphone," the spokesperson says.
