Aeromedical services are set to benefit thanks to upgrades at the Collinsville Aerodrome.
It includes a new fauna-proof perimeter fence, secure air-side vehicle gates, upgraded lighting and the sealing of the runway.
The Royal Flying Doctors’ Service Head of Flying Operations, Clayton Nankivell, has thanked the Whitsunday Regional Council for investing in the facility’s upgrades.
“We recognise the Collinsville Aerodrome as a lifeline for the local community, ensuring timely access to essential healthcare and life-saving aeromedical retrievals,” he said.
Division 4 councillor Michelle Wright said the upgrades are the result of strong advocacy from her community.
“I’m incredibly proud to see this major upgrade delivered on time and under budget after 14 months of dedicated work,” she said.
“It’s a big step forward for Collinsville.”
While the council’s commercial operations director Craig Turner said the works will enhance the operations of the RFDS.
“(These upgrades) provide a significant benefit to aeromedical services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which relies on dependable airstrips to deliver life-saving care,” he said.
The airport works were jointly funded by the state and federal governments.
