A review into the obstetrics and gynaecology departments at Mackay Hospital has been delayed again.

It’s been 10 months since it was first launched following claims from multiple women of botched c-sections and other treatments.

It was first meant to be delivered by the end of June, however the deadline was extended until the end of August.

The report is yet to be received.

Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates says the report is too important to be delayed any longer.

“Every time there’s a delay, every time it’s pushed into the too hard basket, that’s one less woman who gets the justice she deserves,” she says.

“These women’s lives have been torn apart and they deserve the truth.” Member for Whitsunday Amanda Camm says it simply isn’t good enough.

“The horror these mothers went through at the Mackay Hospital should never happen to anyone,” she says.

“Every woman who walks into the Mackay Hospital needs to have confidence that the problems which have plagued the maternity ward have been addressed.

“Every setback, every hold up, every extension, erodes this trust.”

Mackay Hospital and Health Service chief executive Lisa Davies Jones says the service is still waiting on the independent investigation.

“I will now be contacting the independent external investigators for an update on the status of the final report,” she says.

“I am committed to sharing the outcomes and actions of the investigation once I receive the final report and take time to review it thoroughly.”
