A Mackay petting zoo that has operated for almost 60 years could be forced to close.
MAD Animal Addiction farm has been handed a compliance notice from Mackay Regional Council to remove the animals from the Andergrove Road property.
It comes after nearby residents lodged 14 complaints over a period of time regarding the farm’s smell, noise, hygiene and excess numbers.
The owner has been ordered to remove 40 plus livestock by October 31 after due to a breach of residential zoning laws.
A statement by Council states that they have a responsibility to investigate complaints received and will continue to liaise directly with the owner of the animals to resolve the issue.
The farm’s owner Karen Mason has launched a petition and is calling on the community to sign it and help save the farm.
