Local SES crews are at “the top of their game” as the region braces for a wet Spring and Summer.

The Weather Bureau has declared a third La Nina which is expected to deliver an increased risk of flooding.

Local controller Alex McPhee says they’re well prepared, but Rockhampton and Brisbane crews can offer assistance if needed.

“We’re quite comfortable at the moment that if an event is to come along that we’d be able to handle it for at least three days quite well without needing any help or extra stores,” he says.

“We’ve got good teams that are trained up ready to do all of our storm damage and flood response. Our flood boat operators are at the top of their game.”

Member numbers are looking strong for now, but Mr McPhee says many hands make light work.

“The more members the less people are stressed and the less hours people will have to do which is good for everybody because if we get our jobs done that means our members aren’t getting pushed into a lot of hours to try and cover jobs,” he says.
