The Crisafulli Government says they’re delivering a safe and accessible learning environment for all students at Mackay State High School, with $1.8 million in upgrades to redesign pathways, improve disability access and install a new car park.
The improvements will ensure students with disability can easily navigate their school grounds, with safer pathways connecting seven school blocks and a junior school covered area.
As part of the significant works new ramps and handrails were installed, along with a new elevator, yellow pedestrian crossing lines, and wider doorways.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government was delivering a fresh start for schools right across the State.
“Every child should have access to a positive and safe learning environment,” Minister Langbroek said.
“We’re committed to delivering new, expanded, and upgraded infrastructure to improve educational outcomes, after a decade of neglect under Labor,” he said.
“These improvements help all students travel around the school more easily, while making a significant difference to students with a disability to ensure they have the same opportunities as their peers.”
Mackay State High School Principal Felicity Roberts welcomed the upgrades, which will benefit students, staff and the school community.
“The accessibility projects are necessary for students and community members who require additional accessibility around the school grounds,” Ms Roberts said.
