Whitsunday Regional Council is facilitating the temporary installation of a Ferris Wheel beside Airlie Creek, operating 7 days a week from 10am to 10pm, starting early June through to October 2025.

This family-friendly attraction will add vibrancy to our Foreshore, support local events, and give both locals and visitors a brand-new way to enjoy the view.

It’ll operate first for a 5 month trial before council consults the community for feedback.

Whitsunday Regional Council says yhe community has been vocal in recent consultations about the desire for more family activities, mainland tourist attractions and improvements to the vibrancy of our entertainment hubs.

“To achieve this, Council have worked to facilitate the opportunity with the operator through the granting of a temporary licence for the 5 month trial,” they said in a statement.

“The Ferris Wheel will be formally opened to the community early June, with low cost ticket prices and locals to receive an exclusive discount,” council said.

Council may consider formalising the return of the Ferris Wheel in future years to activate our
Foreshore.
