New York native Sombr just performed in the most surprising place! The 21-year-old Lower East Side-raised singer-songwriter, currently on his arena-level You Are The Reason Tour, appeared with a small group of backup vocalists. Dressed casually in a green jacket, sunglasses, ripped jeans, and boots, he sang into a microphone stand set up amid the station’s tiled walls and fluoro lights as riders and fans gathered with phones raised.

Footage quickly spread online, showing the electric atmosphere of the crowded platform. The MTA itself amplified the moment, posting: “New York native Sombr surprised riders today with a pop-up performance at 14 St-Union Sq station.”

Reactions were, as expected, mixed at a busy Manhattan hub. Many fans cheered and filmed enthusiastically, while some commuters were frustrated by the disruption in an already hectic station. After the set, Sombr left with a police escort as fans followed, cheering and requesting selfies. He waved, got into a waiting car, and even popped out of the sunroof for one last goodbye.

The pop-up comes while excitement builds for Sombr’s Australian ‘You Are The Reason Tour” in April 2027, with multiple nights in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane plus a show in Adelaide.

It’s a major step up from his 2025 debut run, which included sold-out headline dates and a memorable Spilt Milk appearance.

How would you feel if you heard this mid commute home?
