Mackay will host its first ever test cricket match later this year.

Great Barrier Reef Arena will become Australia’s 12th men’s Test venue this year, with the North Queensland ground hosting August’s second Test against Bangladesh.

Australia will take on Bangladesh in a two test series, with the first in Darwin on August 13 before coming to Mackay on August 22.

Mackay has hosted multiple men’s and women’s international matches across the last 24 months, along with some Australia A contests.

“With the event slated to generate almost $2 million for Queensland, this is a massive event for Mackay as all eyes will be on the city and the action from the Great Barrier Reef Arena in August this year,” Queensland Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said in a statement.

Tickets go on sale in June.
