The Foodspace Café is opening for a series of trial weekends.

The café will be open Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20, from 9am to 2pm, and will be offering a special menu item to celebrate the launch of three new exhibitions in the gallery.

Manager MECC and Events Andrew Bobeldyk says his team are excited by the opportunity to trial a weekend opening with a classy high tea.

“We will even use the Foodspace Café liquor licence so that those who want their high tea to be a little ‘bubblier’ can opt for a champagne upgrade,” Mr Bobeldyk says.

“I expect the high teas to be extremely popular, especially at the price we have them at, so I’d recommended booking a table to avoid missing out.”

Bookings can be made by calling Foodspace on 4961 9719.

Artspace Mackay Director Tracey Heathwood says a weekend opening was something the Artspace team had wanted to see for some time.

“Nothing caps off a morning exploring our beautiful gallery like being able to sit down for a drink and a bite to eat with friends,” Ms Heathwood says.

“It really allows you to make a morning out of your visit and will help draw more people through the doors of our building.”

This weekend opening coincides with the opening of three exciting exhibitions at the gallery – Zanny Begg: These stories will be Different, Kara Day: Ladylike and Stephen Homewood: Turbulence.

The next two weekend openings of Foodspace Café will be during the school holidays – September 16 and 17 and September 23 and September 24.
