The search and rescue operation for a fisherman missing in waters off Mackay will enter its fourth day today.

Police continue to hold grave fears for the welfare of the 41-year-old Grasstree Beach man, who has been missing since the boat he was on sunk last Thursday.

The seven-metre vessel had been carrying three people, when it went under near the Creal Reef, in the Coral Sea.

The RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter located one of the men clinging to the overturned boat on Friday morning.

The 44-year-old Grasstree Beach man was retrieved by VMR at approximately 7.00am and transported to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition.
