A teenager has been charged with a string of offences after allegedly causing two separate crashes in Mackay involving stolen vehicles.
Police says two vehicles collided at the intersection of Bruce Highway and Sams Road in Mount Pleasant around 6.30am on Sunday, before one, a stolen white Toyota Landcruiser, left the scene.
The driver of the other car, a 75-year-old Blacks Beach woman, was transported to the Mackay Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The white Toyota Landcruiser, stolen from an Andergrove address earlier that morning, was later located on Cemetery Road.
Police were then called to reports of a stolen red, Isuzu MU-X 4WD driving dangerously on the Bruce Highway.
It overtook a marked police vehicle headed south around 2pm.
Police activated lights and sirens but say the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit commenced.
At 2.04pm the stolen 4WD collided with another vehicle travelling north on the Bruce Highway at Farleigh.
A 70-year-old man and 68-year-old woman from the other vehicle were transported to Mackay Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The sole occupant of the Isuzu MU-X, a 19-year-old Mackay man, was arrested at the scene.
He was transported to hospital as a precaution and was subsequently released before being charged with ten offences.
Police will allege the same man was driving stolen vehicles in both crashes.
The 19-year-old will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court today on a string of charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and leaving the scene of incident without obtaining help, as well as unlawful use of a motor vehicle and disqualified and unlicensed driving.
