Paramedics and a rescue chopper were called out to the waters off Chalkies Beach yesterday, responding to a man in his 50s who was stung by an sea creature at 8.30 last night.
The man was winched from a vessel before being flown to an ambulance crew.
He was taken in a stable condition to Mackay Hospital.
It comes as North Queensland marks the height of it’s stinger season which ends in May.
The Horseshoe Bay stinger net on Magnetic Island has been closed due to a similar stinging.
A woman in her 20s was stung by a suspected Irukandji jellyfish while swimming inside the enclosure.
Paramedics were called just before 2pm and took her to the Magnetic Island Health Service in a stable condition.
Townsville City Council says the net will stay closed for at least 24 hours while Surf Life Saving crews carry out precautionary drags.
