Local cane farmers are concerned amid predictions more wet weather is on the way.
Mackay growers have been hit hard after heavy rain earlier this year delayed the start of the crushing season.
Now, weather experts are predicting above average rainfall across the state over Spring and Summer.
Queensland Canegrowers chairman Owen Menkens says many are still recovering from the previous downpours.
“It’s very concerning for growers we can’t get all our crop off,” he says.
“It’s certainly a big concern for the industry. We try and go as hard as we can and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”
The harvest is now expected to run into December.
“Once you’re crushing towards Christmas usually the rain, the wet season, starts coming again so it makes it harder to harvest the later you go,” Mr Menkens says.
